Absolutely, it was basically designed for this scenario. But it's a fairly complex tool, so here's some advice to make sure you don't fuck up before you get acquainted with it.
    • /MIR will delete files that are in the destination but not the source. Handle with care.
    • /L will show everything your command line would do without touching anything. Use it to make sure you got everything right before proceeding. (Can and probably should be combined with /LOG and /TEE)
    • Unicode logging is broken; it writes the job header as UTF-16 but everything else as ANSI. If you have lots of filenames that use foreign scripts this may be a problem.
    • File and folder names containing spaces must be enclosed in quotation marks, but very careful not to accidentally type two in a row - e.g. ""Some Files" - as that will discard the remaining command line parameters.

Low SMB throughput may be fixed by disabling encryption in Samba. FTP is another option, I suppose.

As for the duplicates, you only need to hash files with exactly identical sizes, kill the ones with matching hashes, and review the rest. That should deal with most of them. Unless "duplicates" here refers to multiple releases of the same movie/album/whatever in different qualities, in which case I can't think of anything.

I was going to suggest that too, but 30 TB... he's beyond saving at this point

Question Anon... Is Robocopy and TeraCopy a type of FTP program to move files over a network??

And i am assuming you can't connect a USB Ext. Drive direct to a NAS?? Again if you don't even have space to put another drive in your NAS?? Can you not pull one out and bust open the EXT. Drive and slot it in and tell it to copy??

As i mentioned i bought this cable to move all my stuff to my mock server (converted PC), and it is not the fastest i guess, but i do assume it is better/faster than doing it over a network...

    https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

The truth why i do that, i download a ton of stuff having unlimited everything, and i skim through it to see if i will ever be interested, then i would move it, if not, i just delete it.. I think that makes sense..The same i have at least 6 sata connections on my Mother Board, and i wont buy a drive bigger than 4TB's. Just the thought of losing a drive bigger because of failure will really piss me off!!!...And really if i needed more than that?? I feel i may have some hoarding issues

And really if you do want something in the future, say a movie that someone recommends?? I don't ever think i have found a problem getting it, the same with HBO shit, truthfully i have been using the same Usenet provider for a while and it has been really good that way.
The same with the NZB sites i belong to when it comes to indexing and not having dead NZB links...

And you know i have been trying to get rid of shit

    Just saying

Edit: I can say i am seeing a big comeback on AVI format, all the new shows and movies are still being uploaded that way..

I'm actually paying "out of work" family members to scan 1000's of photos at hi/res about (1200 to 2400dpi) it's about 500mb each... gawd I just luv all them empty drives!

(They'd do that crap for nothing, they're in the photos!... nothing here in BFE land except clean fresh air, stretching their legs, but family needs to feel useful... and besides I'm lonely.)

Seems simplet enough. Pushing data through 3 OS atm (DSM, WIN10, OSX). Mac is pointless. Countless errors. The USB Copy seems too fast. 1.82TB in a couple hours? When comparing DIRS they're way out.

Properties of Backup from USB Copy

    From SAMBA (WIN10)
    \\***\Name\USB1\USB Copy_2020-05-10_091156
    23.7 GB [467 Files, 66 Folders]

    From SAMBA (OSX)
    afp://***.local/Name/USB1/USB Copy_2020-05-10_091156
Calculating Size, [good effort OSX. You tried]

    From DSM
    /volume1/Name/USB1/USB Copy_2020-05-10_091156
    1.82 TB [53781 Files, 10147 Folders]

    From DSM mounted HDD
    /volumeUSB2/usbshare
    1.82 TB [53786 Files, 10151 Folders]

Using DSM; Difference between source and destination is 5 Files, 4 Folders. :creis:

2014... I can't even think back that far buddy LOL!!...

But i am now thinking not long ago i got rid of thousands and i mean thousands of burnt CD's/DVD's/Dual Layer disks!!.. And funny i couldn't find any takers for all the soft cases they were in. Even the thoughts now when you had to use 2 cd's for a complete movie and how many i reburned because i couldn't remember where the fuck i put the dam thing...

How long ago was that and i just recently got rid of that shit!!!..

What i had a least 5 boxes of VHS movies/shows!!, I got so excited i looked on Ebay and saw some of those Disney movies were worth $20.000.00!!, then i took a second look and it is the same guy posting them for the last 15 years, with zero offers LOL!!!!. Not sure if you had them?? The ones that wont even fit in a drawer to hide away!!!!..

    Attachment 184525

Yup i got a variety of those still sealed in plastic!!!!...Now i have to find a VHS player

How about 400 burnt wii games?? or how many cases of Xbox/Xbox360 games?? and organizing plastic guitars, and drum kits???

    Attachment 184526

Again i say good luck Buddy
I couldn't handle stacks on stacks of random shit. Unless it's cash. Granted in the old days everything was organised in those disc wallet things.

Glad there are poeple in worse position than me.

I laugh that you make that comment and yet when you really look how false that statement is. Even worse if you have kids!!!. It is amazing what ends up in a drawer/cabinet or the basement/storage area and you just forget about it!!!..

It is funny iLOVENZB that a lot of people out there think old random shit is cash, i can tell you if you want to sell something for $100.00 they offer you $5, it has come to the point that leaving shit at the side of the curb and seeing people in brand new Mercedes stopping and loading it in there trunks or hatches gives me more pleasure that my garbage gives them joy..

Truth i just don't have the patience to get 50 texts/emails and have to reply to what they offer....

Even more amazing is you don't really know how much crap you have until you have the drive/motivation to go through it and clean it up, now you really have to have the drive to keep going to the end, if you know what i mean...

Now to your issue... I can tell you i have gone through transferring stuff from drives, the pain in the ass i had was if there was a file or something with an error it would just stop transferring until i clicked on the "OK" to skip!!!!. So my next drive i wanted to go through i really did just skim through it and if i didn't see anything that really i needed or say wanted i just deleted the whole fucking drive and said the heck with it!!!!. Again if i did want something again i just re-download it, but that happened rarely. And yes the disks were at one time organized and done either by alphabet or genre with printed lists and each case numbered or lettered for ease to find, now how the fuck long do you think that lasted LOL!!!!...How many carousels of Verbatim disks as well stacked all over the place!!.. Now that space has spare drives or just random crap to take over it's place...

Like i said how long it takes to transfer shit, really doing a quick skim i guarantee thinking moving it to a permanent place, it will still never see a tv or PC screen to view ..

Again I will never say to anyone what they think is cherished to them but really from experience now i can tell you personally Women have purses and shoes and we have so much more shit to go through!!!...

Again patience and i wish you good luck buddy.....
