I'd rate the first one a 7.5/10. The character is somewhat neutered in the second one though and like many tough guys before him, the character is pretty much the story in this franchise.

They've picked a weird book to base the second film on, the seventeenth in the series; it's not in the top ten of the books, let alone the best two.
I remember being disappointed when Tom Cruise was announced as Reacher, but he's made a decent fist of it. Although some of his films have been dodgy, he delivers in all of them - I don't know why people look down on him as an actor unless it's the scientology thing, which would be a bit mental.

he always plays good, All-American, clean-minded, dependable characters. Finding out he is loony as fuck in real life *does* challenge that. i *eventually* watch his filums, but I'm not eager to.
