Thread: Stupid Pop-ups

    i'm sick off bloody pop-ups
    i just read that it is a problem with microsoft xp--messenger
    does messnger blocker work or am i going to get duped again?

    i use norton internet security it has never vlocked a window that is supose to come up and only once in a blue moon does a pop up get through and you can manuallly block it then.

    Turn off Windows Messenger. Check out BlackViper.com for instructions

    As for the pop ups, just get a browser like Opera or Firebird that has pop up blocking built in. I use both browsers and I haven't seen an unwanted pop up yet.

    yea, just get a better browser, I like myie2 but any listed above make a better browser than just ie

    How to disable the Windows Messenger.
    (The annoying messages in the gray boxes.)

    Windows 2000:
    Click Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools->Services
    Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
    Click OK

    Windows XP Home
    Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
    Click Performance and Maintenance
    Click Administrative Tools
    Double click Services Scroll
    down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
    Click OK

    Windows XP Pro
    Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
    Click Administrative Tools
    Click Services
    Double click Services Scroll
    down and highlight "Messenger"
    Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
    Click the STOP button.
    Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar

    i don't use a pop up blocker well ok its called ad-aware but it doesn't work like a normal pop up blocker its free at downloads.com

    ad-aware just lets you scan for adwares after they've been installed on your cpu
    try going to astalavista and see how many pop-ups you run into
    (before i installed ad muncher i was gettin barraged by em) not 1 now

    oh yeah, and a good hosts file helps too, but you kinda gotta build it to your preferences

    Please do a search on the forum for Pop up blockers and testers. There has been a topic before where we measured the statistics of each program to see its efficiency. Ad Muncher i believe came out to be very good.

    There is no need to go into discussions which one is the best, you can find that yourself in that thread.
