Should be enough for most. jDownloader gives you more choices like downloading 4K, 3D, subtitles, audio stream only and so on.

Recommend, Free Download Manager. Good multi-purpose downloader (inc YouTube).

I can’t use any software to download YouTube video, I just use some website to download and keep safe my devices form extra load. You can also try with following website.
    • https://sconverter.com

YouTubeDL GUI. This is the wrapper GUI for the famous python script. It makes everything easy. Just remember that if you encounter any errors to Update within the GUI. Been using it flawlessly for years and it supports downloading entire playlists. https://github.com/MrS0m30n3/youtube-dl-gui

The most recommended plug-ins for Firefox suit me, but then I mostly only want the audiobooks- which have to be re-encoded in Opus to get the insane file sizes down to something reasonable. I have noticed if the Youtube vid is set to 'automatic rez' the download plugin often fails.

It seems that Youtube is constantly rethinking how the vid files are stored and streamed. Sometime my downloads are 0.5 realtime (1 second for 2 seconds of video) and then they can rocket to full bandwith download speed (which I never understand why Google allows). I do know for better quality, the browser plug-ins are constantly failing, and then adding essentially paid functionality to re-allow the feature.

But the good thing about the Firefox plug-ins is how many other video sites they work flawlessly on. And on those 'other' sites, they frequently bypass all the rogue 'pop-up' ad crap.

However, that YoutubeDL GUI spaceinator kindly mentioned sounds like my kind of app. I'm always feeling guilty for not making enough of an effort to find and deploy these *proper* solutions rather than using lazy compromised browser plug-ins.

Be sure to give jDownloader a try too. The amount of options available for YouTube are amazing. You can pick the quality, framerate, container and codec you want, download the audio track only, and even grab subtitles.
