This site is a bit strange, it always shows up:

Evidently these policies were reevaluated at some point.

That is true on every free site i joined over the years, some even started at 25-50 free downloads and went to 2.....

I have also had sites promise lifetime memberships, and change for new members not offering it anymore.......

And usually the explanation or excuse is cost of running the servers?? Truth or not i would leave that for Anon to agree or disagree??

Truth when it does come to usenet NZB sites that you do find what you are looking for, joining them is not a bad thing and really the cost spread out if you do use them often, it does make things easier

And keeping the free ones for backup updated also a suggestion, especially they tend to get taken down or removed....

    Just sayin....

These guys apparently give you less than 1 per day now

For what it's worth, it's not an excuse. An "everything free for everyone forever" approach would be unsustainable, as the resources required to provide the service continuously increase while the means of financing them do not. And lifetime subscriptions create a similar situation, since while you pay a lot upfront, you then become a free rider as far as future costs are concerned. Also, whose lifetime is it? Considering all piracy sites have targets on their backs to a degree, probably not yours...

This very place offered unlimited grabs and didn't even accept donations until 2013, but back then we had more funding from advertisers and were relatively under the radar compared to the big players. (Remember NZBMatrix and Newzbin?)

Anyway, it is what it is. My advice is to check all free indexers and see which ones work out for you. Memberships aren't mutually exclusive

If i remember i never became a paid member here, i did join a long time ago for sure, but i paid for other NZB sites i thought suited me better...

And noticed some sites if you don't join or stay active in some way they remove your account, and make you join again if they open there invite....

I think NZBgeek did that to me?? And i never paid there either......

Most of them, to me i did think it was a gimmick to pay, and i never did i always paid yearly or 3 year deals they offered...

Exactly, and knew it wouldn't last forever for sure

Truth i joined here a while back and never really used the site for NZB's , and no offence it was never considered a be all NZB site?? It was advertised more of a chat site with the bonus of few NZB links posted??
Truth it was a frenzy thing of me once i started Usenet, and NZB sites popped up to join just in case it was needed..

NZBmatrix and Newzbin, were the elite in the days and yes there were some others, but they were so exclusive it was impossible to get in....

Jeeeeez i remember the dinosaur days with metered internet and trying to monitor how many headers you were loading to find shit, Newsbin days of course, and then seeing those bills, WOW!!!..
Now with unlimited internet, up and down, and NZB's to me downloading you don't even pay attention anymore, you download shit and take a peek of a show or movie and if no interests?? Delete of the hard drive...Now 40TB's later i should say

Again i was not a big net guy so i would try every other day to see if the good private sites let you sign up and did..

I looked into Torrent stuff, and Meg was nice enough to give me invites to a few of them, it just wasn't my thing to leave my PC open to share....

Anyway, it is what it is. My advice is to check all free indexers and see which ones work out for you. Memberships aren't mutually exclusive
True and good advice, but i would add that if you feel it is a site that you will get some value joining and it doesn't bust the bank for you, join to get the better advantages.....

You are probably saying the same thing, i just worded it my way

    Correct.

Like many other things, this place is what you make of it, but in practice 95% of members don't share the vision you describe

I was not big on Usenet at the time, using it mostly as a backup for file host links and torrents, but it was clear that losing Matrix and Bin within such a short timeframe was considered a major blow to the community.

it just wasn't my thing to leave my PC open to share
That's how Bill Gates gets you.

One upside of torrents is there there are many content-specific trackers, whereas offering anything and everything is the norm for NZB indexers (very few exceptions exist).

if you feel it is a site that you will get some value joining and it doesn't bust the bank for you, join to get the better advantages.....
I agree, but as a VIP (Very Important Poorfag), my budget for these things is approximately $0. I'll just take what I'm given

    Got it, my bad

This i know from past on you helping me out a few times

Plus the discussions of Usenet in the past and the few slow free Usenet providers that are not long gone...

One thing i will say about torrents, and it still happens today, the posts come up faster at times for Movies, TV shows, it is never days , but hours sometimes. Still, that Bill Gates thing applies...

And it may have specific trackers?? But as the same better single NZB sites and Torrent sites upload links to everything...

Well i know you have a thing like many others that if it is in a gray area of legality, why should i pay for it...

Again i do it for convenience , and myself watching quite a few TV series, i can use my on demand on my ITV now known as Rogers here, but it still has commercials that i can't stand watching with..

And it is good to have choice Anon............I am thinking that is a Democracy thing
