And does anyone know a free program which converts from .avi to mpeg, so the film can be played on an ordinary DVD or VCD player?

Btw i used virtual dub , but problem is that it turned an 80MB mpeg file to a 3GB (gigabyte) .avi file , any way to resolve this problem ?

You saved the AVI as an Uncompressed RGB video. Open your MPEG file with VirtualDub.

Click on Video > Full Processing Mode
    Then Video > Compression
Then pick a codec for the AVI file (Divx, Xvid, MS MPEG-4, etc.)

    Then Audio > Source Audio
and Audio > Direct Stream Copy

    Then save as AVI.
