Been using my first Chromebook for the past few years and have been quite pleased with it. Going to clean it up (delete my porn stash), and give it to my daughter.
Buying this one on payday (this Friday). Will be used frequently at work.

Being how smart kids are today and knowing how to find things or recover them, i suggest a fresh reinstall of OS as well all the latest updates
I tried loading a mock Chromcast OS on one of my small laptop vs Linux, and i didn't like either one, ended up just putting on Windows 7 32bit. I don't use it very much anyways, nor do i use Google Chrome as my internet search engine, i guess that would answer my opinion on Chromebooks

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money
Meg-sama, here's your next splash screen
Anyway, a Chromebook would be pure suckage for me, because it combines three of the things I dislike the most in the computer world: Google, cloud computing and a locked down system (app store, going though hoops to get root access, can't install another OS without hacking). If you don't mind that, they're good enough and Chrome OS has been praised for its low resource usage, but if I had to buy a new laptop myself it would very likely be a Thinkpad, with Windows 7 and without Intel ME.
A good article on this matter can be found at https://wiki.installgentoo.com/wiki/Laptop_Buying_Guide

My personal opinion any one of those Chrome laptops are now in competition with Mac and the Microsoft Surface, and gives you a better valued price in comparison
I pretty much agree with everything you said Anon, with the exception i do use Google Search for finding things, and Lenovo has had some issues with reliability of there laptops, but if you are Lucy and don't receive a lemon, they are pretty sweet. My sons girlfriend has one for personal use and she was happy with it for sure.....
Now you are going to have to explain to me how your eliminate Intel Me out of a CPU chip??
And i lucked out that at my sons work they constantly are upgrading there PC's/Laptops, and they either just throw them out or if you want them, they give them away, so he got me a newish Del Latitude E6530 15 inch laptop(2 years old), and to put it in perspective i was using a Del dell Inspiron that was my sons Bar Mitzvah present when he was 13 years old, he is not 26.. But it did the job for me to be honest, but the new one is lighting fast !!, and has shit that i will never really utilize....
But really is there a way to shut off or disable the Intel ME part of the chip??
PS. I did try a few of your Search Engines you recommended , but honestly i went back to Fire-Fox, and also the new laptop i got was loaded with windows 10, and that was history in seconds!!!, and installed windows 7 pro 64bit (Really it is over-kill, but it opens up all the options to streamline it).....
He also got me a small box unit i think they used for viewing stuff on large screens, and it has a funny power connection and a power piece that was connected to the MB??, so i tried to see if i could unplug that in put in a standard power supply?? It didn't fire up!!, so i think the board was blown in it??, but it does have a "i m c 10 Intel Confidential" cpu in it?? and a RoHS C7Q67 MB?? Is it really worth transferring it to another MB?? Or is that chip made for a lower voltage MB??
I can build and tinker all day Anon, but when it comes to specs and shit i am clueless with computers......
Thanks in advance for your help Anon....

Only if you say please
I use https://github.com/corna/me_cleaner, a CH341a programmer and a SOIC clip (which saves the whole ordeal of de- and re-soldering). The me_cleaner wiki is highly informative and will tell you everything you need to know before, during and after the process.
Opening a laptop, taking out the motherboard and rewriting one of the chips with something that gnaws on it may not sound easy, safe or fun, but it will look better once you get the gist of it. Just make sure to 1. get the EEPROM voltage (1.8V vs. 3.3V) right; 2. always make a copy of the original ROM contents to undo any fuckups.
If you're lucky, everything will go fine on the first attempt and your laptop will be the same as before minus Intel spyware, as was my case. If you're not, some functionality will be missing; there are workarounds for that. If you're very unlucky, the laptop won't start at all; no worries, just flash the original image back and investigate what you can do. Once again, the me_cleaner wiki and issue tracker will prove highly useful here.
I have added Qwant and PrivacyTools to my arsenal two months or so, check them out if you're interested. Also, Firefox is not a search engine and neither is ChromePS. Looked that up, only found images of a motherboard with "normal" power connectors (ATX 24-pin + processor 4-pin).He also got me a small box unit i think they used for viewing stuff on large screens, and it has a funny power connection and a power piece that was connected to the MB??, so i tried to see if i could unplug that in put in a standard power supply??
