Thread: Is a Proxy sercure enoug for torrenting?

  1. #1
Hi guys, I have a NordVPN subscription (Don't ask how), but the vpn client sucks, it doesn't allow split tunneling, always fails to connect... So I setuped a nordvpn proxy on qBittorrent so I guess my traffic isn't encrypted. I think that my questions are pretty clear in the picture made in Paint .Network picture.png

Long story short : is a proxy secure enough in a kinda restrictive country? Could you please explain yourselves ?

Oh, and also, if you had a solution to tunnel only my qbittorent traffic to nordvpn so it doesn't slow my whole pc connection down, it would be very helpful cause I think that it would be really more secure.

    Thank you very much

You say you set the proxy on qBittorrent, but your image says it's done at the router level, and then you ask for a way to only send qBittorrent's traffic through the proxy. Which one is it?

Anyway, I visited NordVPN's support site, and their proxies are apparently vanilla SOCKS5. SOCKS does not have any sort of encryption; that's usually offered by shadowsocks or stunnel, which must be set up separately in both server and client. Also, you won't be able to receive incoming connections in any case.

My recommendation would be to use a different provider that is P2P-friendly (offers port forwarding) and allows you to use OpenVPN, SoftEther or WireGuard as a client.

    Anon....

What i don't understand Anon, when i was checking out a private Torrent Site that Meg gave me an invite, it gave warnings on using VPN's and gave a list of ones you could use for the site?? If i remember and thinking logically, if you didn't set it up the way they wanted you too, they have no way of keeping track of your traffic or seeding?? And of course gives them the right to ban you??
And more detail of you having to make sure certain ports were open on your end as well....

    Is that wrong....

Again i don't use a VPN for Usenet, just SSL connections, again i didn't think there is a way to hide the amount of traffic from your ISP anyways??

When i check my bill it always shows what i am using both up and down, but has no idea what i am doing.....
