well i understand the the fact that it is old, but there is simply the fact that the 9600 is not XT or PRO so it is a close race, and older PRO equivelent card versus a new reg card...
u can oc ur 9600 to match pro

    Ok everyone here we go,

The 8500 putt up a good fight, but it lost by a hair... (also note that the 8500 was about $200 more...) that was with benchmark...

As for what i "felt" (yes very scientific) the cards feel like they are close in comparison on games like Copunterstrike, however ther was a very big difference when i put in HALO, the support for direct x 9.0 was a very evident feature, and i also hooked up duel moniters with the DVI to CRT converter thingy...
and so that was fun! speed and qaulity in picture when compared with MAYA 5.0 high poly render models it looked very close the 9600 has a little more detail... And the reall choice here would be if you want to watch TV while playing CS or have duel moniters... , but if you guys are asking if it is a good card, then YES, it is, i got very smooth HALO gameplay witch says allot... It OCs a little, but i was hesitant to go to far, because the card has passive cooling, or metal fins painted black(high qaultiy paint, you know the magneticly thingy lol) but it was ok, if you go pro with this card you are defintly going to cruise through the games with no problem, not to mention the 3D rendering i have been doing... overall great card, and a great ATI driver to match!! very stable, this card fixed all my bros computers probles with compatibilty, this card doesn't have many fancy features like the 8500 with it's TV feature, but it does support duel moniters and with XP that means Extended desktop! I will recomend this to any one that is looking for a great card for cheap! for an ATI card it is very nicely priced, and it made me smile! good bye 8500...
