Thread: Help

  1. #1
I am Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place but no doubt someone will correct me,sympathetically I hope. My computer has been taken over by a search engine called ilook.com and everytime I open I.E. this search engine starts up using 100% of my cpu and won,t allow me to change my default address. Has anyone else experienced this problem? and could someone please tell me a way of fixing it. I would be eternally grateful for any help.

first try spybot search & destroy and lavasoft's Ad-Aware 6, update to all the latest reference files and scan.

that should sort you. google the names of the progs and you'll find links easily.

Thanks for your reply the_faceman but I have scanned with adaware and macaffi and this has not solved it and as I am now using a friends PC I am frightened to Google it in case it infects that.

symantec dont have a listing for 'ilook' - maybe check your spelling and use this search form for info to get rid of it:

    symantec search

for future reference there is a program called "Winpatrol" which alerts you everytime a program trys to run without you directly clicking it or trys to take over your browser, google it to prevent hijacks like this happening again

Sorry if this is too simple

Have you changed your homepage in IE properties.

Have you checked your start menu, to make sure it isn't lurking waiting for IE to start, then activate itself.

Is there an icon for it in your system tray.

Have you checked add/remove programs, to see if you can get rid of it there.

Rule of thumb, if something doesn't work check it is plugged in before you phone the electrician

Download this and cycle through the functions,SpyBot Search & Destroy one of the functions prevents your home page from being changed, so make sure your home page is the one you desire, before you use this program, you can change your home page while off line, and if your not sure how to do this just ask
