Does anyone know What process I have to have running for windows to run correctly as well as my drivers antivirus and firewall ?
Nope, cus I don't know what hardware, antivirus or firewall you have installed.

Have a look HERE and HERE. [/b][/quote]
That was just what I needed... I shut down 3 services and saved a bunch of ram.
Thanks ...

Blackviper is another good site to check.

Task manager doesn't give an accurate count of services running. Each svchost can be several services. Task manager shows I have 25 running but in services it shows 39.

@ 4play
seems fine to me i have 28 running.
Is that in task manager or services?

Services is services. Taskmanager is processes.

services.msc won't show you which programs are started or running, only which services are started and running. There could be more at any time if some are set to manual. They start as required.

I see your point. So svchost.exe is a process that is running a group of services. Then reducing services running will mean fewer instances of svchost running. That distinction wasn't clear to me before. (still a noob)

yep, you got it. That's also part of why they say not to use msconfig to disable services. If a program or program group ( process ) calls that service and it's not there, you'll start getting errors.

should i point out that each process can also use many threads instead of starting child processes.

so a check of the number of threads running is also useful.
