OK here we go not sure if this should be here or not but its sort of software and hardware questions

anyway getting a DVD Burner in a few weeks.

My first question is if I burn a Mpeg movie fie onto a DVDr (yes my DVD player reads VCD DVDr etc) will it play on my DVD player??

I find that it will be heaps better rather then splitting the dam VCD to 2 CDrs all the time

so is it possible to just burn say a 1.5 mpeg Movie onto a DVDr with Nero and it will play on my DVD player?

or will I have to convert to DVD or something??

if so what software do I need to convert to CD better still what is the best?

    thanks Adam

As long as you burn a Video DVD, it will work. And you should have no problem playing it on your DVD player, since it supports DVDr

As for getting the file off a VCD, that's really easy, cuz It's located in one place on the VCD as already an dat file, just find it and use it.

And Nero should do the encoding for you

No mate you wont have to re-encode it..but you will have to re-sample the audio stream from 44,oxxx to 48,oxxxhz which only takes a few minutes. As vcd format you can fit around 2-3 movies at full quality on a dvdr too.Same for svcd also.

personally, i like to encode them to mpeg-1 using tmpegenc, using 29.976fps, 48000Hz audio ~(in fact i use acp to convert to kvcd)

then use tmpeg dvd author to convert them to vob files (this will innssert menus/chapters etc) then burn with nero

the second conversion takes a couple of mins and is well worth it.
