From My Laptop To My Tv

OK kLIte speciallist I got a little problem
Im trying to see a movie from my laptop to my TV
Here is my problem I'm hooking up the video cable from my laptop going to my tv my lap top goes black and and transfer to my tv at this point I could see my desktop in my TV. NOW when I try to play the movie it wont play Im not able to see anything in my TV goes black. What I'm doing wrong.

is it total black or only black where the video is, if so you have to turn of video overlay as it isnt supported on tvout. it will be in videolan settings. or try winamp 5 for playing your vids, thats what i use on my laptop. works great.
