I install windows on average once a month cos i keep f*ckin it up. I have noticed with experience that if i don't install the updates windows seems to work a liitte better, as soon as i install them things start to go wrong. I use Zone Alarm & AVG & have IE settings set for max security. So are these updates reely neccessary?

I'd suggest getting the 'Critical' Updates at least, the 'Recommended' updates you can kinda browse them and choose what you want, not all updates are needed........I choose what I need only from the 'Rec'..........

    Just to give an idea:

    Windows Update

How do I know if I need an update?
Windows Update scans your computer and provides you with a tailored selection of updates that apply only to the items on your computer. During the scan, a list of categories appears under Welcome to Windows Update and the number of updates that are available in each category is noted in parentheses.

    Critical Updates are important!
Any update that is critical to the operation of your computer is considered a "Critical Update," and is automatically selected for installation during the scan for available updates. These updates are provided to help resolve known issues, and to protect your computer from known security vulnerabilities. Whether a critical update applies to your operating system, software programs, or hardware, it is listed in the "Critical Updates" category.

Zone Alarm has problems with all of the Microsoft range, a better firewall is Kerio and its free, you can get it at:-

To CornerPocket: I have all the critical updates apart from SP1 which i cannot save to my drive. As i said if i leeve em, windows seems to work fine, soon as i install things start to go BAD. Thanks for the quick reply.
To Leech Killer: I have Kerio, i just thort Zone Alarm was a better firewall. I have to shut it down now & again for some websites to work reet, maybe it's Zone Alarm that's giving me all these problems. Same to you, thanks for the quick reply.
