Download another copy of DirectX from www.microsoft.com just to rule out a problem with your copy the re-installing DirectX 9, if that doesn't work then DirectX has a diagnostic program built into it try that. If all else fails you can get d3d8.dll from here:-

Not sure if this will fix it though as this dll file was never intented for you operating system.

Place them in your "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" folder.

if your using XP, they should probly go in C:\Windows\system32
2k and XP don't use the system folder much anymore
