Thread: Kilobits Or Kilobutes?

  1. #1
I have a little confusion, what does the download speed Kb/s in Klite Traffic view indicate, is it in Kilobits or Kilobytes?

I have an ADSL 256k service and the fastest I ever get in Klite is 25Kb/s, but usually around 6-8 Kb/s for most files. Is this correct?

It is kilobytes, and there's a reason why it is not up to the 256 but I don't know the answer - sorry. Someone else will know though.

Probably the file you're d/loading is rare. You need more sources.

you have 256 kilobits/sec adsl, therefore the maximum download speed you should see in kazaa is (256/8)= 32 kilobytes/sec

Thank you people for the clarifications, now I know that 32Kb/s is the fastest I can get in Kazaa. But the best I ever had is 25Kb/s, is there anything I can do or try to make my download achieve 32Kb/s?

You will never get 100% of speed for downloads.

It says my Upstream/Downstream rates in KBPS are 288/576.

So what speed can I expect?

    about 58-59 kilobytes/sec down and about 30 kilobytes/sec up

edit: these are maxima though, usually nearer 50 down and 25 up
