I left the outside door open for a few minutes and it must have got in.

When I came back in, I probably scared it and it ran up the stairs. Next thing, I came up the stairs and sat down at the computer. After a few minutes I heard a scuffling next to the waste paper bin a couple of feet away. Scared me half to death.

Then I saw it, a little field mouse. And it saw me. Damn, those things can jump.

I quickly shut the door so it can't get out of the room.

So there we are, it's in here with me. I've got a trap somewhere but I'm not very confident about them. Last time one got in it was here for weeks before it suddenly disappeared.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Get a humane trap (a cardboard box with cheese in will often do the trick; just prop it up with a book or something and tie string to it, so you can yank it away and trap the mouse).

Then drive out to the country somewhere and set it free.

Mice actually prefer bread to cheese, it's an old wives tale about them loving cheese.

And you can get properly made humane traps, the plastic tilt trap is effective

Plus you don't have to deal with a mouses gut's hanging out cos thats just gross
