Here's mine ... I rarely see it ... I usually have win explorer open ... I use that to access 80% of my programs ... no shortcuts here ...

also to help clean up your desktop try renaming your shortcuts with
"alt+255" this will leave a blank space thus just leaving your icon there ...
to do this with all of them simply copy the first name and paste it twice in the second name ... 3 times ... 4 times ... so on ... this will get rid of all ur words on ur desktop leaving just icons ...
