RamIdle and Memturbo are both good. RamIdle has more options but Memturbo is smaller and faster.

    Cacheman is the best.

It gives you ultimate control over RAM and cache.

It's also shareware-cum-freeware: they let you use it as freeware under the EULA if it's for personal use.

When I using Win98 or ME, I used Tweak All, which has lots of plug-ins, but the one to free RAM with is called 'FreeMemory'.

It worked great for me, but I simply haven't needed it since using XP / 2000.

OK, let me see if I understand this:

You are running out of available RAM, so you download a program, which requires even more RAM to run, so that you can manage your RAM efficiently?

Does this make sense to anyone out there? If you are running out of available resources, then buy more RAM! It's only $20 for 128mb of RAM. --

Windows 9x has terrible memory management and leaks memory all the time. Start up Unreal Tournament 5 times and about 30MB will disappear. Win2000/XP are better, but still not perfect.

RAM optimisers defrag RAM as well as recovering it, thus improving performance and, more importantly, stability.

They also usually take up a very small amount of RAM.

Cache optimisation is also important for boosting performance - use Cacheman to do this (there's a link to Cahceman on my page).

    Make more sense now?
