Thread: Desktop Icons Resetting

  1. #1
Recently I have noticed that windows changes all of the icons and their names on the desktop to their default values & icons. This is very annoying and I cant find a solution.

Icons affected include My Computer, Network Neighbourhood and My Documents.

    Any suggestions or solutions?

    More info please.

What method or software did you use to change your icons?
    What OS are you using?

    OS: XP Home

I just changed the icons through the Customize Desktop via Display Properties. It randomly reverts all the icons back to normal and its f*knn annoying!

Okay. If you don't have it already, download TweakUi.
Use it to repair your Icon Cache. This function can be found in a dropdown menu in the "repair" tab.
Warning - Don't go crazy with all the other tweak options because you can stuff up XP if you don't know what you're doing.

If your icons still don't behave after that, try finding MicroAngello on kazaa.
It's a comprehensive icon maker and manager which enables you to change any icon on your system by right clicking on it and selecting a new one from a library of your own choosing.

I believe there's a hash for MicroAngello in the verifieds.

    Hope that helps.

Maybe windows doen't like the way you're changing the icons?
It can be a picky sod sometimes.

That's why I suggest you try repairing your icon cache and using MicroAngello.

It's worked for me in the past when icons refused to do as they were told.
