Thread: Dvd-r/rw Or Dvd+r/rw

  1. #1
hi, im planning to pick up another dvd burner for my new pc and i was wonder which one is more compatible w/ dvd players. i dont want to spend money to get a multi format one when only one format is commonly used and the other is not.

i have to say that i havent noticed a compatibility issue with either. i think it depends on the player. me and a friend burn movies on a multi format TDK and have used both + and -, and results are pretty much the same ,as far as i can tell. you prolly should get a multi format tho, just in case.

I think that cd+r will win out in the end since it has more features (and is likely to have 2-layer earlier), but at the moment the media is more expensive compared to cd-r.

I would go for a dual format drive at the moment, but buy dvd-r media until there is some indication of which way the manufacturers are going to go. More stand alone dvd players support dvd-r than dvd+r, but the difference is small and most support both formats.

Political correctness is based on the principle that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

What 2 burners are you comparing? I'm sure it's not a $40 difference for every make.
