Thread: Peerguardian & Cpu Usage

  1. #1
I happened to visit PC Pitstop tonite for the first time since installing PG. I was a bit shocked when the test came back saying my cpu was maxed (900 mz, 640 mb ram). I click on the task mgr and PG is using up to 94% of my resources.

I hadn't noticed this before b/c my performance hasn't been affected as far as I can tell. Does PG simply use all available resources or is it possibkle that I have it clocked too high? I haven't altered any of the defaults except to load new IPs once a week or so.

    Thanx for the help.

and just a reminder that the peerguardian program is not suggested as the best defense against anti p2p tracking (it only blocks tcp/icp connections)

I have problems with all 3 versions mentioned. don't get me wrong it works but after a while it will just vanish from "notification area" and need to be restarted and if i set it up to be run from start up , i get all sorts of mad issues.

i have had problems with it maxing out c.p.u

i have had problems with video's (not porn) setting it off and freezing until i stop PG

even using VNC on my network has triggered a c.p.u max out until i stop PG.

(java console from sun sets me off on one as well)

but saying those things, i do still use it along with other protection.

i just treat it as quirky

oh and i never seem to get any software issues (touch wood) so b4 other things are blamed. sorry tried , tested and ran a few reconstructions to check and it is PG

but i also have never had ONE problem with Klite software and i know people who swear that various versions crash etc... not once for me.

PR7 is the best one for my set up - the recent ones hog a lot more memory

Maybe so but since most connections made are TCP/IP connections its worth it. Can you reccommend a similar program whick will block UDP connections as well?
