I couldnt agree with you more.. I totally understand the inherent problems in filesharing.. I was just expressing my opinion about something that will probably never change, and of which, nothing can be done about. I guess I was expressing my frustration out loud..sorry about that. After reading some of the comments on this topic.. I have to agree with you.. there are alot of idiots out there. I considered this subject closed as soon as I posted the article.
I think we were both letting off steam

Most of the time, users aren't there to reply to messages or read to them and most dont care of what you say so... fakes will be around.
No question about that. I even tried to message the individual that I downloaded the corrupt file from.. just to give them a "heads up".. but that was to no avail.. the user wasnt accepting any messages. I am the type of person that tries to avoid stereotyping in general.. but I have to tell ya I really think several times before I download a file from someone with a username like "default user" or "kazaalite user".. of course, any username can give you a bad file.. but I've had some bad experiences with those.

The problem is from two different people. The people that change the names, and the people that download the file from someone and dont delete it when they notice that it is a fake are the people to blame. If people would just delete these files when they get them we wouldnt have this problem.

Yup..I agree with you 100% Certain things are inherent in filesharing and will never change, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it, so it will just continue to happen.. some people change filenames for very valid reasons..others however, deliberately misrepresent files.. for what? a participation level that doesnt mean squat anyway? Obviously, people who do this arent going to remove those files. "Regular guys" like you and I will, but there are alot of idiots out there. I have seen many very good networks fail over time..largely because of this very issue. Over time, the downloads will take longer and longer because of bandwidth congestion until the network is no longer viable and begins to lose its members to the next "latest and greatest" along with those same idiots to start their cycle of destruction all over again. If this continues..the end will be near.

I hate downloading movies. They are the worse at mislabeling files. But what I've heard is that movie companies actually have people doing that on purpose. They figure after downloading a movie 5 times, you'll give up. Well I'm sick of this! A good example of this is all the Lilo And Stitch movies. I know, who the hell cares about a cartoon. Yes, it was still in theatres at the time, but I ended up downloading several movies like Minority Report and Bad Company. And downloading 5 movies in search for 1 with a 56k, obviously I really want it. Had I actually wanted to keep the files, I would have relabeled them correctly, my 6th attempt was with WinMx, as bad as that filesharing program is, I got it.

I understand that the movie industry is all about making money, but this is how I see it: I pay a lot of money to go to the theatres, I pay to see that one movie, and if Im willing to go through all that, obviously Im gonna like the movie enough to buy it when it comes out on DVD. I buy it when it comes out, and guess what? I free up space on my HD and delete the file. I have so many video files that aren't on DVD, and may never get on DVD, and to the movie/tv industry I say =Þ

I think its odd how movies are mislabeled with other movies, yet tv shows, mainly childrens shows, are really mislabeled porno.

For movie downloaders: Use AviPreview for goodness sake!!!
for other types: stick with it
For overall: check the verifieds (there are other sites with verifieds)
