hi i got a couple questions about my hard drive.

    1. what is the point of making more than 1 hard drive (does it save space, etc.) and how do you do it?

    2. what is the point of making partitions and ow do you do it?

    3. also when you go to my computer>right click c drive> properties>under general tab what will happen if I check the compress drive to save disk space box? should i check it?

btw i hav 80 gig hd and about 42 gigs left.

    thanks alot!

3>why not, i mean you have more than enough space left anyways, i wouldnt check it unless i really needed space though

I'm not sure what the difference is between question #1 and #2 is....

There are several advantages to partitioning your drive.

-If you keep Windows and your programs on C:drive and you other data (music, video, porn...whatever) in a separate partition (drive), if you have to reinstall Windows at a future date all the rest of your files will be uneffected.

-By keeping your C: drive small ( say 10GB or so) you can defrag it very quickly.

-Should you contract a virus it can't infect your other data files.

    - After a fresh Windows install and the installation of all your programs if you clone an image of your C: drive and stash it away, should you run into a problem you can lay the clone back into C and you're all fixed.

Making a hard drive is a bit complicated. I suggest you go and buy on instead.

    2. what is the point of making partitions and ow do you do it?
To divide it into sections. Use Partition Magic.

    3. also when you go to my computer>right click c drive> properties>under general tab what will happen if I check the compress drive to save disk space box? should i check it?
It will compress your data to use less space. Don't do it. It will slow your PC down.

When you partition it, Partition Magic will automatically assign a drive letter for you.
The whole process is actually very easy, the program will show you what your HDD will look like before you have it execute. You can create as many partitions at one time as you like. Mine was done in one shot...

You may want to practice on your old drive first if you have any doubts...

can u plz elpain 2 me all the partions you have cause i wanna know how many 2 make once iget the app. thanks!

The page file is virtual memory, which Windows will use to augment your physical RAM.
To access the settings (in XP) go to Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance>Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory>Settings

    *whew!*

I use Partition Magic and Norton Ghost to work on my HDD. Both are available on the FastTrack network with all the appropriate ah, fixes.
