i just downloaded WinDVD 4.5 Plat. and it's a RAR file.
what is a RAR file and how do i open it?
i double clicked it and it says 'can't find application'.
do i need to burn it onto cd?

.RAR file is an archive (compressed) file, just like .zip files. You need a program called WinRAR to extract it:

RAR files are produced using a program called winRAR, similar to winzip and can be downloaded for free (40day eval period) from rarLAB...
once its been installed its a simple process of extracting the file like you do with winzip and running the installer (or whatever) that was compressed in the file..

WinZip was my favorite. Just uninstalled it. Now using WinRAR exclusively. It's just better.
WinRAR is the best for compressing. It woops Winzip any day!

It's not like they take huge ammounts of disk space!
exactly, i have winRAR because i had to un-rar half life at some point and never got round it uninstalling it, i think takes up 3.5MB, thats 3 floppy disks...
i have to keep winzip because my school dont have winrar... so im getting used to em both

winrar is the best program as it can extract all files e.g winzip and winace
but winace will not extract a winrar file nor winzip.
