For making vcd's & svcd's I noticed that vcd-easy is more stable and you
have more controll over the settings. (More tweakable)
Especially I like the chapter options ;for example you can divide a TV-episode of
45 minutes in x nr. of equal size chapters for under your remote-control.
For 'normal' data however there is nothing wrong with Nero .

I will give it a try to, since my Nero always fails in last 10 seconds

I got a copy of that program - it is good, but the only real downer is that it doesn't let you clip the video output. I guess this might have something to do with the fact that a VCD has to have a certain resolution, but I don't know too much about that.

When I did Lord of the Rings it had two massive black bars at the top and bottom - over half of the movie was black (therefore wasted) space.

Also, it said it would make me a 650MB file - but it came out at over 1 gig!

I would heartily recommend FlaskMPEG - but maybe only for DivX's, not VCD's.

    Keep well!

P.S. - anyone wanting the original Star Wars, I highly recommend downloading them - they are excellent (although it is a pity they have to be the special editions...)

the black bars are normal it's just the widescreen version of the movie..

yeah, I guess so. But the thing is, all of the DivX movies I've got are trimmed right down to a letterbox shape - with no black bars. Obviously they appear when you go fullscreen, as they are put there by Windows Media Player or whatever.

But when VCD Easy finished with my LOTR DVD's, it made perfectly square video files - with the black space included. Which means that half of the physical file data is given over to encoded black space - which is a waste.

But as I said, I think this might be because a VCD has to have a certain resolution...

Anyway, I'm slowly learning the art of doing it myself. I think results from FlaskMPEG are better than TMGMpeg or whatever it is called that comes with VCD Easy.

    True :VCD-easy can't do everything.
Clipping (sometimes also called cropping) can indeed be done with
    Flaskmpeg or TMPGEnc.
I don't use Flaskmpeg anymore but from TMPGEnc. I know
that if you open your project you can clip frame with :mpeg_settings
In TMGEnc.+ there are many additional features like: Pal to Ntsc & viceversa
Be sure to look at this online guide Convert

btw :if you do a simulation burn with vcd-easy you can learn a lot from the generated log
