Advice Need For Harddisk

I am thinking of about getting a new harddisk to store my mp3, video and software. Any recommendation?

Wat do i need to look out for when getting a harddisk?

Seagate, Maxtor, and Western Digital are all good brands.

I have had a Seagate for about a year and a half now (80GB) and its very quiet and has never had any problems.

Im sure there will be more recomendations

I would recommend seagate too, i have one installed on each computer and they are very quite.

I've used Seagate (first one was added to my A1200, way back when 70MB was huge), Western Digital, Samsung, Fujitsu and Maxtor.
They've all performed flawlessly for me, only getting removed for upgrade purposes, so my favourite would have to be Maxtor due to their proliferation and price.

Maxtors are pretty cheap right now, I would reccomend

Things to look out for:

Cache size: The bigger the better, more is good, faster

Hard drive size: Pretty obvious really

Brand: Maxtor, Seagate and Western Digital are all well respected brands

I can definetly reccomend Western Digital. I got a 120gb a few months back and it runs like a dream. I haven't heard it once.

I forgot to mention I have two drives on one pc and one of them is a Western Digital 120Gb (the other a seagate 80 gig) and it runs as it should - I suppose thats the best compliment you can give a hard drive, if it can be taken for granted - do its job without any probs. then its a good drive.

Wat is is ATA or SATA thing? Does the harddisk work on any pc iregardless of ATA or SATA.

I am using P4 1.4

ATA: Advanced Technology Attachment
SATA: Serial ATA

check your PC manual or motherboard book to see if it's SATA ready....unless it's a pretty new machine it's probably not.

Serial ATA has a higher bandwidth, smaller cables, and other nice stuff, but is also new and more expensive.

A high-capacity (100GBish) 7200rpm ATA100 drive is probably your best bet.

If you want to get picky about it, compare the read/write seek times & latency. (low numbers are best)

Gotta echo that, the WD1200JB, I believe its model number is, rocks.
