If you don't go to other peoples funerals, they won't go to yours.

When I went to the sperm bank they thought I was making a withdrawl!
Was it lunchtime. [/b][/quote]
Mr Monkhouse said it saw it on the news! Rest his soul.

Bob's pals pay tribute

SHOWBIZ pals of Bob Monkhouse today paid tribute to the quickfire comic who became one of Britain's best-loved entertainers.

Friends of the star, who died this morning, described him as a "gifted comedian" and a "perfect gentleman", praising the professionalism which saw him through five decades as a TV star.

Crooner Max Bygraves, a mate of the game show host for more than 30 years, said he admired Monkhouse's "incredible mind".

"He knew the entertainment game backwards and understood the mechanics of comedy like no one else," he said.

"He had an incredible mind for filing away jokes. When his joke books were stolen, he lost thousands of gags but he rewrote them again from memory.

"Like everyone who has been in the game for a long time, he went out of vogue for a while but then people realised there was nobody around who could do it as well as him and he was back in demand."

Entertainer Les Dennis, who took over the Family Fortunes show which Monkhouse once hosted, described him as a "truly lovely man".

"When I first joined Family Fortunes he called me out of the blue to give me some support and encouragement. He was a genuinely sincere person," Dennis said.

"He was brilliant and inspirational and there are not many comics of his calibre around any more."

Private Eye editor and Have I Got News For You panellist Ian Hislop met Monkhouse when the comic was invited on to the TV satirical quiz show in 1994.

Hislop said: "He was extremely good on it. He was one of the older generation of comedians that we had on, and he just came on and blew everybody away.

"He had a reputation for being cheesy and smarmy but he had millions of good jokes. Nobody could stop him, he was like a machine gun."

Impressionist Mike Yarwood, a friend for many years, also joined the tributes.

"Bob was a very gifted comedian but a very modest man with no ego. Every time you spoke to him he wanted to talk about you, never about himself.

"Bob was a perfect gentleman, a nice man, and I shall miss him."

Sadly missed by a lot of people
Peace
