Sounds like a problem that I had when making VCDs, a while ago.
I tried Memorex, Verbatim, "Smart Buy", Sony and a few others.
---My General Electric DVD player is sensitive---
Use Princo brand CDRs. See if that works. Also use NERO for making a VCD.
I hope this helps you some.

The good news is that many DVD players have got a hack to enable vcd/svcd playback. Goto 'dvdhelp.com' to see if yours is listed.

My dvd player can play VCD's but it will freeze every minute or so for a couple of seconds. It's VERY annoying, does anybody have any tips to fix that?
(I have an RCA dvd player)

At vcdhelp.com, you can check the compatibility of your unit with the VCD standard. Many players have hacks or codes that can unlock the ability to play VCDs. The info regarding this can be found at that site.--

Do you burn the VCDs at high speeds? This can cause problems. I burn at 4x speed to ensure I don't get this problem.
