Thread: Jumper Settings On New Ide Hard Drive

    i am adding a extra hard drive and i want it set as a slave but i dunno how to set the jumpers so it will read as the slave as i already hav my old hard drive wiv win xp on it.

    There should be some sort of documentation or indication on the actual harddrive.

    It differs from company to company and from model to model.

    well a m8 gave me this hard drive and he gave it to me how it is. no documents or anything. its a maxtor or something like that.

    I've no idea then.

    You know what size it is? Try the model number (should be on the HDD) on Maxtor's site.

    yeah if i unplug my pc again i can look at the modle number and shit and he thinks its either a 25 a 35 or a 40 gb. but there is no unirvsal way it had 8 pins on it and 2 little jumpers.

    Just search for the model number on google and im sure you will find some sort of manual.

    FCOL, open the case and have a bloody look, then.
    You are going to need to know the make and model; there is no way around that.

    i got the make and modle but just mucked around with the jumpers and it worked.

    On most modern hard drives there's some marking to show where the pins should go. Have a look to see if there are letters M, S and CS on the drive.
