yea try overclocking an amd you'll see smoke 0.5 seconds after you remove the hsf....

try it....

And what sort of idiot would decide to do that?

That's kind of like saying that Mercedes are crappy cars because they can't survive a fall from the Empire State Building.

Sheesh.
Exactly. [/b][/quote]
lol clocker.... my point being was how fast an amd can burn up against intel cpu's.....

its actually not like the analogy u mentioned..... in the video (and my experience....my pentium didnt burn) the amd cpu starts burning, whilst the intel remains un-burned.... workless nonetheless.

edit - oh btw.... i HAVE an amd and have nothing against it......

Yeah, we know. But were just saying that noone runs their CPU without a HS/F on it. And that with it on AMD is known for its overclocking capabilities.

Edit: Yeah what happend to that deal where you were gona send a guy ur 1800 and he was gona give you a 2500??? lolol

its in these posts that you HAVE to say BETTER overclocking capabilities.... p4's have really nice oc'ing capabilities as well....

edit - btw...... "we know?" you are actually saying that what you think is what clocker thinks? hmmmm

I have seen the video in question.
I thought it was stupid then and still do now.

If the part was designed to work one way ( i.e. with heatsink), then what is the point of testing it another way ( no HS) and declaring that it is somehow inferior if it fails?
It's not like everybody doesn't already know that AMDs run slightly hotter than Intels.

Again- Sheesh.

Once again I will agree with Clocker. If he says something I dont agree with then I wont agree, but most of the time I do. I thought the test was quite stupid to do, since everyone does use a HS/F.

yep you are right - however, a cpu should be designed to stand certain amount of heat (more than which BOTH of the cpu's in the video take) so that if a hsf is misplaced (which happened in my case), the user still has time to realize this mistake before watching smoke coming out of the case....

i misplaced my hsf (put it a different way) on my p3....and the computer held up for a week.... then my computer started freezing and realized my mistake...

edit - btw.... fyi bigdawg, some older computers dont use a hsf....

My motherboard has a failsafe alarm which will shut the system down if the chip heats beyond a certain point.
It is in BIOS.
No need for the CPU to duplicate this function.

FYI- DWk...why are we talking about "older computers"?
Are there a lot of Commodores on this forum?

Edit: repaired inadvertant misspell of member name.
Sorry.
Mea culpa.
