You guys are talking about downloads of 100kb/s and excess.

How is that at all possible?

The max I get is 20 and then it is cause for celebration.

Do I have to buy some hardware to enable fast connection, is there some trick to upping speeds?

I have e-mule, Overnet and Kazaa..........but all are the same.

Someone please give me an idea of how to get a good download speed.

I have been getting steady speeds in the 55 to 65 KB/s range, with an excellent ramp-up (see screen shot), so the speed is pretty steady from when the file starts to when it ends.

So far, no fakes, and... there are even a lot of Mac files on Overnet (I use both

If you are not getting good speeds, check your settings (firewall, router, etc.), and make sure you understand how the speed options work in Overnet.

If you are getting a lot of "not asked" on the nodes, you have your D/L speeds set wrong. I have a 1.5MB down, and 256 up DSL line, but I only allocate 86 K/Bs down and 12KB/s up to Overnet. My max speed (third box) in the options is set to 168 KB/s.

You can try checking your connection here: http://www.thedonkeynetwork.com/connection_test

Make sure you enter the actual port number you are using in the port box option and that you have either Overnet or eDonkey/eMule open when doing the test. If you get anything other than "success", something is blocking the port. On Overnet, you can also look at the line next to "connected", it should say "open" (on eMule you get yellow instead of green if something is amiss).

Thanks to Tmpj for the excellent loader!
