I've bought components to build a computer for a friend. I've put eveything in properly (and triple checked). But i'm having the same problem with this ASROCK of getting the monitor to work AGAIN - as i had with my own system, which also has an ASROCK motherboard.

I managed to fix my system by closing the latch to the AGP card, which didnt seem at the time to be neccessary, but made the difference.

But with this new system the AGP simply doesnt work, and the latch seems a bit wonkey.

I'm not posting this topic for advice on building the system, because i know what the problem is, i've built many systems, so i'm experienced.

What i want to know is has anyone else had similar problems with the AGP latch, which seems to be badly designed, because its vulnerable to easy damage the way its placed on this particular motherboard K7S8X.

I don't see why ASROCK need to add this latch when the traditional design (without latch) has been working fine with other motherboards.

Here is a very large picture of that board:

I have seen many boards with similar latches. I don't have difficulties with them. What exactly is the problem?

I've probably just been unlucky and got a damaged board, but i'm not too keen on this latch - the fact it needs to be closed for the graphics card to work. It's a lot easier and more reliable not have this latch.

Everything else works perfectly well, it's just the graphics - i cant get the monitor to start up. I've tried installing another graphics card and also different components from my system, but still no luck, so the prob. has to be on the motherboard's AGP.

I'll be taking the motherboard back to the shop for a replacement on monday, but will get a another friend to look at it tomorrow for a second opinion.

To Virtualbody . 56 megs , thats one big pic, what is it of, anything interesting?

Looks like a different AGP latch from whats on most boards, but can you even get the video to boot up with the latch in place?
