I established my site www.nbadiscussion.com a few months ago no, but apart from 5-10 members that post kinda regularly it hasnt really developed?
I dont know where to advertise, how to get more members etc etc etc...

i think google (for example) rates sites as how much links they have from other sites

Get your site listed in search engines and email webmasters of similar sites and ask if they want to exchange links.
