meta tags will help your site show up for the specific search terms that you want to be associated with... but just by virtue of being on the web and getting linked from other sites, google and other search engines will eventually find you and list you whether you want to be listed or not.

Keywords are ignored by google now and the way to get in is simply submit your site to it, but the fastest way is to link exchange with sites already in google so your site gets noticed a lot quicker. My site got in after four days using this method, let me know if you wanna exchange links with me
