Thread: Ripping A Dvd

  1. #1
    Hey,
I wanna rip a dvd in avi format so its small in size. Coz when i rip it its like 3Gig. I wanna rip it so I can upload it to my site but i want it to be the size of the ones u download off kazaa.

After ripping it, its probably not an AVI file (i think it depends how/which program you use to rip). What you need to do is encode the movie. Try a search on this forum (way too many topics cover this), or check out www.dvdrhelp.com, tons of info there.

    Good luck,

Ripping removes the copy protection while encoding shrinks it. MPEG-4 (DivX, XviD, etc) is designed to compress VOBs (DVD). That's all in the guides in the above links. Nobody wants to write a book to explain all the details, for there are severals guides for different ripper/encoder programs.

The easy answer is to use xmpeg or dr divx to encode the movie after ripping it.
