Having a good overall system speed is nice, but what really matters is the FSB, a clock speed is determined for CPU by the FSB being multiplied... now the CPU can multiply so much.. but it is important that the Memory (ddr) is at the same or higher clock speed as the cpu... When you have a high FSB your games will run smoother, and your overall system speed will noticably increase. A good cpu is nice, but as long as it is not holdingh back other componets from thier potential then it is ok... Ram will get you amzing performance increases to a point, while it shows when i render stuff like 3d movies that i have 2 gigs of ram, for gamer it would probably be closer to the 556-7** range... I would recomend dual ram(2 duplicate sticks of ram), working on the same FSB rate as your CPU, this set up will cause your componets to be all working at the same rate and thus your northbridge is less strained and your comp runs smooth... For gaming though you also need a decent VID card, but that is a whole other fucking area...
Hope it helps... a CPU is essiantial, the computer won't run without one, but to say that you need the newest 3gh plus is a far cry from truth, i have a 3gh+ intel with some quet frankly kickass set up... right next to my amd 2500+ barton core with decent stats and there is no noticable difference (ok the 9800 xt vid card makes some diference... but assuming i had that in my norm comp too then yes the same performance...)
so in my oppinion i would say that the FSB is more important... not all entirely that it is high, but that everything is using the same one... at a fairly high speed, i would however recomend the barton core 2500+ AMD chip very nice easy to cool... very nice...
Hope this helps!!! hehehe![]()
