Im sorry for asking a stupid question. im prolly supposed to know this but what does Compression mean. what does it mean to Compress a file. Sorry for the question. Any help would be much apreciated. Thanks. :helpsmile:

compressing a file simply means to make it smaller by using winzip or winrar. you can also unzip a file by downloading a proggy like winrar or winzip. it can be found at your local kazaa superstore.;

It is methods of making data smaller. It is done mathematically and there are two different types of compression
1.Lossless compression maintains data integrity. ZIP, RAR, ACE are all great example of this. You get the same data back after decompression.
2.Lossy compression does not maintain data integrity. This is used mostly in media stuff i.e. Sounds video and pictures. MP3, JPEG, Gif, divx/xvid, MPEG are all great example of this. You do not get the same data back after decompression
