Sometimes even when you disable a proggie or service in msconfig to not appear at startup it comes right back.Originally posted by dboucher@22 January 2004 - 22:37
ok, ran msconfig and found it, unchecked the box (msconfig kept closing on me,.. very strange, never done that before), restarted and voila there it was back again, relisted in msconfig and running in the background again... mongrel!! am starting to get a bit worried people... btw, looked in services.msc but not there that i could see...
EDIT - just d/l a program very similar to norton systemworks 2004...go to activate it but something keeps shutting down the program!! what the hells goin on?
The problem is unless you configure the program itself not to start up its going to do it anyway and msconfig wont solve the problem.
For instance That little quicktime icon thing kept popping up on me at startup. First thing i did was go to msconfig and try to disable it. It was there and I unchecked it but to no avail. I had to go into the program prefences in quicktime and disble it that way.
well, i think after getting some fixes etc i finally got rid of it... turns out it was both the gaobot worm AND then the blaster worm kicked in...monrels... btw, what do you guys mean by someone 'phoned home'.. and 'got owned'...?

So they phone home or connect to do what ? I use a firewall to stop that or msconfig to delete on start up![]()
Figures it was a virus....
If you're using Windows XP or (God forbid... not that I beloieve in ... it....) Windows ME, the you should empty the system restore folders.
I would suggest going here either way. Even though I don't like Norton Anti-virus, I choose AVG, this page on the norton site is useful.
Because the viruses can come back.
