If you wanted to I guess you could (the K++ guys have done it as its the official Kazaa underneath).
Why would you want to though? I'm sure it would be easy for the developers to spot if you or anyone renamed K++ and I doubt they'd be please with removal or tampering the tags they put on...

I think all he wants to do is impress his friends. Yeah, it's possible. Just don't take someone else's Kazza modification, change its name and call it your own. Otherwise, go for it.
