There are way too many indeed. One of the problems with Europeans and soccer is that all "fans" will pick a player from their favorite team. In that way the Americans have more respect for star players from other teams. They will see when a player is really great and even if he's from another party they will show more respect then europeans usually do.

    Sportsmen that spring in mind
Michael Jordan without a doubt had one of the biggest influences on sport, sportsmanagment, TV coverages and economics. I think he was a great player that i enjoyed to watch. I often stayed up late to see him play (european as i am&#33. I think he is everything an Idol should be... a lot of sportsmen should take an example on him.

Dennis Roman for being so unique and controversial and combining that with being a great player with very limited talent (must be his eager not to loose..). For those not knowing, he was the absolute rebound king in the nba for many years, and one of the, not so visible keys behind a lot of succes (Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls).

Soccer, well i can't choose: Cruyff, van basten, Zidane, Maldini, Larson, Haisselbank.... Well if i need to choose let me pick Ryan Gigs. I always like the players that are less visible but without whom there was no succes (the players that makes that other players get the chance to become so great)....

Other sportsheroes; Wayne Gretzky, Lance armstrong, Ard Schenk, Olaf Koss, Andre Agassi, Ali, Joe Frazier, Alain fabiani, Ton vd Wiel, Ad vd Velde, Jan Raas, Eddy Mercks, Serge Boebka, Jesse Owens, Bob Beamon, Phill Taylor....... oh and many more B)

Has nothing to do with Europeans and soccer (although I'm not european). The problem is that americans don't have ONE favorite sport, but 3 (at least lmao): American Football (or NFL football, ey busyman ), Baseball, and Basketball

LMFAO!!!! how could maradona have played in a more competitive time?? thats pure bullshit - plus the fact he cheated in a game (the bloody git cost england a trip to the final with his goddamn hand), he took drugs (throw the woot to jail), and generaly, he was a goddamn peice of ... lol, sorry but these are the facts.

sampras retired cos hes a great sportsmna, not like agassi, who cant get enough of all his damn money. sampras will always be the best tennis player to have ever played the game, no doubt about it.

allen iverson? the one who when he was 15 was sent to jail for burglary' aremd robbery and mugging?? wow, a real idol (as much as i admire his skills, i wouldnt mind having his skills mate, a great basketball player - talks too much trash and was a criminal...)

Most Americans have 1 "favorite" sport. We just don't have a "national" sport like most foreign countries.

    My favorite sport is basketball.
