well i put in the cd on startup, power off, then back on, but for some reason it tries to start up windows, which doesn't work because i had a virus that messed with explorer... well anyways how can i make it read the cd on startup?

a couple of quick hints did you check your boot order in your bios also maybe the "xp bootdisks" 6 floppies from the microsoft site may help... you can repair or do a full install with them.. B)

Press the [Del] key while starting your PC. You will get to the bios setup screen. You will find the bootup order in there. Just look for it. Save that setting and reboot.

If you Windows XP CD is bootable it will launch if you press the spacebar when you see the message about booting from CD.

If you CD is not bootable get those 6 floppies.

Not all bios setups are the same. It all depends on what motherboard you have.

Try in 'Bios Setup Features' look for boot device or boot sequence.

If you tell us what model and brand of motherboard you have. I can then check online for its manual. I would then see exactly what Bios type you have.
