Thread: Xp Recognizes My Hdd, But Doesnt?

    here's the thing, a friend of mine has a Packard Bell (we cant all be smart of course), 1GHz, 512MB RAM (only recognizes 240 for sum reason) and a 16GB HDD........... she wanted 2 upgrade the HDD, but when we inserted a Maxtor 120GB HDD, it did recognize it in the BIOS and XP (home) does in the hardware tab on the properties of my desktop, but isnt shown in "my computer"

    how do i get this hard drive 2 show up????

    you have to create a partition or format it. Use Partition magic and it'll show up, at the moment its in RAW format rather than NTFS or FAT32

    no, at the moment its not even a RAW disk, its not showing up on the "my desktop"

    if she's got windows xp:
    right click my computer, go to manage, then click disk management and you will see the drive listed here, now you can create a partion on it and then format it with either fat32 or ntfs.

    if shes got windows 98\me\2000:
    download partition magic and partition it, then format it with fat32.
