Will 512mb Ddr400 Fit Along Side

If I bought a stick of 512mb RAM DDR 400, would that work along side 2x 256Mb pc2100 RAM?

no it wont, they have to be all the same speed.

Yes it will, but they will all run at the speed of the slowest ie DDR266.

If you want to use them together then get a 512MB stick of PC2100 and save yourself some cash.

If you want the 400DDR performance then you have to remove the PC2100.

Be sure your board supports the speed you buy.

I'd recommend getting the fastest RAM your mobo can run to (or the fastest you can afford if you plan to upgrade the mobo). That way if you want to run the RAM faster at a later date you can buy another stick of the same and swap it with the slower original one.

if thats the case, ill buy the ddr400 ram, and just run it and that way, like smurfette sed, ill take out the old shitty pc2100 ram sticks once i upgrade

yer when i upgrade to 2 sticks of 512 ddr400 ram.

but for now im asking if itll be alright if i just stuck 1 stik of 512ddr 400 ram along side of pc2100 ram.

Remember to get the other ram from the same company, same specs, to get as close a match as you can.

I take it your going to be running things in dual channel?

do i have to get the same memory from the same company, same specs etc, for it to work? can i not have a totally different RAM stick in there?
