Ide Master; Sata Slave

[Infested Cats]

How do i go about making an IDE hardrive the master, and an SATA drive the slave?
I want to boot from the IDE, and just use SATA as storage. Thanks.

With my (admittedly limited) experience with S-ATA drives, you don't need to define the 'master' and 'slave' drives. To the best of my knowledge, the IDE and S-ATA interfaces work independently of each other, so the jumper settings in relation to each other aren't important. In fact, quite a number of S-ATA drives are sold without a jumper bank on the back.

My current setup is as follows:

Primary Master: 80GB Seagate 7200rpm, 2MB cache HDD
Primary Slave: Lite-On 52/24/52 CD-RW

Secondary Master: 120GB WD 7200rpm, 8MB cache HDD

S-ATA0 (or possibly 1): 250GB WD 7200rpm, 8MB cache HDD

I have 1 IDE drive. Then my SATA drive is connected to a Controller Card.

When I boot up, WinXP detected the controller card, but not the harddrive.

What motherboard do you have? When I was attempting to set up my S-ATA drive, I ran into a few problems due to the fact that the S-ATA enable jumper on my motherboard was disabled. Could this be your problem aswell?

It does show up in disk management.

SATA enable jumper?

My mobo is the Asus A7N8X-X
