How much are your "Kazaa Files worth?"
How about a DVD burner from BEST BUY. There is a $30.00 rebate, then a $10.00 instant rebate. Total price without tax is then $80.00, brand new. Just what you need to backup your pirated files. Look in this week's Sunday paper.

Move It On Over
Since I have a piece of crap computer and I have to format all the time I have run into the same problem. What I did is partition my hard drive in half and I keep all my downloaded files on one half and my operating system on the other. This way when it blows up I format the side that has the OS and I don't loose any of my files.

Buy another hard drive. Use the one you already have as a slave drive for mass strorage.
Borrow a hard drive and transfer the important files on that. Format your hard drive. Then transfer the files back.
Borrow a ZIP drive? burn a CD or two.
Sounds like you are NOT using XP. Sounds like a Win9x thing, with all of that formatting going on.

do what Hank or Spindulik said
But before you do, i think you should scan them all with an anti virus before backing them up.

Well, if you're using FAT32, you can make a boot disk and boot from the floppy. then delete the windows directory, then do a new install.
If you're using NTFS, it could get pretty tricky. If you're using more than one partition and there is enough space on the other partition, you can try to install windows on the other partition and dual boot, then do what I mentioned above. If you only have one partition, you can use something like partition magic to create a new partition without destroying the old one. Then create a dual boot system, then delete the windows dir of the old system....
Goodluck

Hammer Smashed Face
download partition magic, its easy to use to partition the drive, then move the files to that partition (i think was said before) its the easiest way. go to suprnova and download it.
