On a given day or given circumstance, you think you have a limit.
And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit and you think "Ok, this is the limit".
As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.
With your mind power, your determination, your instinct and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

I was going to rate myself at about a 6 point something, but since I fried my Radeon in a stupid watercooling accident I have self-relegated myself down to a 3.![]()

i said reformat, not reinstall. two completely different things. sometimes you can switch motherboards without reinstalling (i.e. you stuck with the same mobo/chipset brand), sometimes you've gotta reinstall in order to get working drivers onto the HD (i.e. you switched brands)... but there are a lot of self-styled hardware "gurus" out there who will absolutely insist that you need to reformat and completely abandon the partition just 'cause you swapped a new mobo or video card in, and that's just ridiculous.Originally posted by adamp2p@4 February 2004 - 17:51
Sorry Brainiac, but you are dead wrong. If you change your motherboard (go from a say, Dell->an Abit) you need to reinstall Windows, it's just a fact of life.
i'll just trust that you prolly misread that sentence.![]()

if this doesn't look fair, point that out
i kinda disagree with the premise that overclocking and experience with overclocking is the measure of how good a person is with computer hardware. there's a lot more to it than that, and there are plenty of people who are whizzes with hardware who've prolly never overclocked at all.
as a hobby, yeah, overclocking and Xxtreme k00ling take a certain amount of learning & skill, but how important actually is that skill? it's just a hobby. being able to build & maintain stable workstations, servers and LANs, being able to resolve hardware conflicts without immediately resorting to a reformat, etc.... that's the kind of stuff you could actually get paid for. for example, if a person thinks he has to reformat his Windows drive just 'cause he changed his motherboard, then he ain't that good.
You dont mate.
I just upgraded my sisters pc from a celeron 1.3 epox(3wtm via chipset) ,to amd 2600+tb shuttle(ak338n via)with no problems,no reinstll ,or format.

I am sorry, but there is no way you can take a hard drive, from, say, for the sake of arguement, off of my DELL, and plug it into big dawg's ASUS and expect to boot up Windows effectively.
That remains a fact of life.![]()
Now it is no Michael Jordan manuever to move data from one hard drive to another; I do this all the time, whenever I perform a back-up. I hope that is what you are referring to. Or, you could mean a GHOST partition.
Edit: and Brainiac, it is good to see you around.![]()
