I use amd, mainly coz there cheap. That doesn't effect there performance though. I think its wrong that they use '1800+', it fools people. I got it thinking it would be 1.8 gh, to good to be true.
the reason amd went with the (+) sizing is so it is easy to compare to the intel chip (intel p4 1800 = amd 1800+) they have the same processing power even though amd 1800+ really has a clock speed of 1400mhz.
in the old days a slick intel sales guy would tell you it was worth paying more for a intel 1800 than an amd 1800 and never tell you that you should be comparing the price difference between an amd 1800 and an intel 2100 since they are about the same power but had a big price difference

As for myself, I use an AMD 1700+.

@TRshady-dont feel screwed, the reason AMD did this was to make sure everyone knew that the AMD 1800+ is comparable to the 1.8ghz Pentium chip.

I myself like AMD better and will use them into the future.

damn i just wanted to hear opinions on this subject, if I had known the response would be so lame about posting in the wrong spot, I wouldn't have even posted.
Cool, you use amd. Im getting 1800+ soon for my second computer. Are you able to play the latest games and run most applications?

Just want to know how good it'll perform.

My other specs will be fine (64mb graphics, 512ddr ram etc).

I play games (warcraft 3, GTA 3, Unreal Tournament 2003, Simcity 4, ETC.) and have never had any problems. I have 512 mb DDR ram tho so that prolly helps alot. I also have 64 mb video card GeForce 4 MX 440. not the best one, but not bad either....
    Today is the day.

I have used both but I like Intel better for some reason. I use a AMD cpu now and I will upgrade to a Asus nforce 2 mobo. Just so I can keep my cpu. But if I had an extra 159 bucks I would buy Intel.

AMD vs. Pentium.... I'v got a P4 with an ASUS P4S533 and i made the choice, because even they AMD can compete in Processing Speed, it usually goes to higher Processor Temperatures decreasing performance... what's not very enthusiastic... 2nd It's not just a question of Processor u must chose a good MB and pay atention to the ChipSet i like SIS chipsets ...
