If you don't mind hackers breaking into your system, then its fine.
You should have a firewall. It would be better to just open up the ports for Bittorrent in your XP firewall. Like this....
In windows xP left click on "Start", left click on "Control Panel", left click on "Network and Internet Connections", left click on "Network Connections", Right click on your internet connection, then on menu click on "properties". left click on "Advanced" tab, click on "Settings", click on "Add...". This is the "Service Settings" for your XP firewall.
You will see 4 places to fill in. Configure as follow...
----------------------------------
1. (Type in "Bittorrent 6881" without the quotes in the first window)
2. (Type in "127.0.0.1" without the quotes in the second window)
3. (Type in "6881" as your port number without the quotes in the third window)
4. (Type in "6881" as your port number without the quotes in the fourth window)
Make sure "TCP" is checked, then press "ok". Make sure that "Bittorrent 6881" is checked in the "Advanced Settings" menu.
----------------------------------
Repeat the above for the other ports you use in Bittorrent.

I know stuff ...
Windows firewall only blocks incomming traffic so a trojan could still "phone home"
Get a real firewall ZoneAlarm
If you attack the establishment long enough and hard enough, they will make you a member of it.

The usual ports are....
6881
6882
6883
6884
6885
6886
6887
6888
6889
I think you need one port open for every torrent you have open.
----------------------
In Azureus you can run everything through 1 port, but some people don't like that Bittorrent client.
