Thread: Best Linux Version?

1. #21
I had Red Hat 9 for a short while. Updating wasn't more difficult than updating Windows. When you log on, you should see Green icon, and I believe it turns red if updates are available. It'll mention updating. It's basically a wizard, just point and click. RPMs (Red Hat Packages) are real easy.

You just have to sign up for the free updates. All the info you need should be at the Red Hat Site.

No idea. But what DWk, shn, and others mean is that Fedora will be the superset of RedHat -- sort of like C++ is a superset to C.
Isn't the RedHat version gonna be paid for and the Fedora the free one?

If anybody here ends up installing Fedora, then you can't go wrong with this site.
They have all the Fedora tutorials you will need get your Fedora box running some great apps. http://fedoranews.org/

Btw, Fedora has a problem with rhn applet. You can correct it here
http://fedoranews.org/tchung/howto/2003-12...hn-applet.shtml

And also the red hat network can be really slow at times. You can change the servers it uses by editing a config file. I forget which one it is at the moment but with Red hat 9 and fedora I never really used rhn.

Yum can update your system a lot quicker

It has nothing to do with you.

It's a Red Hat problem, their ssl certs expired some time last year. Go here and install the latest up2date packages and your problems will be solved
